CAMC Cancer Center Wins Award from the American Institute of Architects

The CAMC Cancer Center and Stantec, an international design and consulting company, recently won the 2015 People’s Choice Award from the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Institute of Architects for their collaboration on the architecture and design of the new CAMC Cancer Center.

The American Institute of Architects has been advancing the value of architects and architecture for more than 150 years through AIA member resources, as the collective and credible voice of the profession, and the definitive source for architecture and design.  Their mission is to improve, for society, the quality of the built environment by further raising the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; fostering design excellence; and promoting the value of architectural services to the public.

Design Pittsburgh, presented by AIA Pittsburgh, is an annual celebration that highlights outstanding architecture and design in the Pittsburgh region.  The event features an architectural design exhibition, a juried Design Awards competition, public voting opportunity for the coveted People’s Choice Award, a gala for more than 400 members, affiliates, design enthusiasts, and guests, a VIP reception honoring the Gold Medal recipient, and a ceremony recognizing the winners of the prestigious AIA Pittsburgh’s Design Awards.

This year, the People’s Choice Award was presented to Charleston Area Medical Center and the architecture firm Stantec for the Charleston Area Medical Center Cancer Center.

The $50 million CAMC Cancer Center opened last May and was designed with input from staff, donors, and patients.  From the moment you enter the soaring lobby with its abundance of artwork, you realize that the CAMC Cancer Center was thoughtfully planned to inspire hope, and perfectly outfitted to facilitate healing.  From a beautifully landscaped garden that provides an area for meditation to the spacious and well-designed patient areas that include privacy for patient reception, patient change area, consultation areas for patients and families, every inch of the center was created with the patient in mind.

The Radiation Oncology Services at CAMC congratulates the CAMC Cancer Center on being honored with the People’s Choice Award and is proud to be located in a state-of-the-art facility where patients receive the most advanced and personalized cancer treatment available in a comfortable and safe setting.
